Transocean Inc. is the world’s largest offshore drilling company with
160 offshore drilling and production units along with several shore
based locations. Transocean was in the process of implementing the
Empac™ application which is used for several day to day business task
performed by shore based users like creating quotes and purchase orders
as well as offshore users which do tasks like equipment maintenance,
ordering parts, creating work orders etc.
The Empac™ application is a 3rd party application, which uses a 2-tier
oracle based architecture. Since the users at Transocean are
distributed across the world and across various network bandwidths,
this application is deployed and served using a Citrix solution.
Objectives:
- Identify
performance/operational bottlenecks for the Empac™ Application
architecture when users access this application fromthe various shore
based and remote locations.
- Evaluate User response times from the various rigs
and compare it with the shore based response times. This was to
determine the technical feasibility of using a Central database
accessed via a Citrix connection from the rigs v/s having a local
database to store real time data.
